"I will catch a wave every day, even in my mind."
                                                   Shaun Tomson
For those that don’t know who Shaun Tomson is he is a surfer from South Africa. I believe he now resides in California near one of his favorite surfing beaches. I grew up close to the beach and was at times able to go every day. This would have to be one of the things I miss most now I live in Sacramento. Surfing is much more than just having a board and catching waves. Sure, to the observer this is what it looks like. I can’t imagine what the observer thinks when he sees the size of the waves or the tricks they do.

If you have never had the chance to go surfing, I highly recommend that you take the time to experience it. There are few things as pure; yourself, a board and Mother Nature.

There is a feeling that I remember vividly of weightlessness when your paddling is taken over by power of the wave. Although I am not able to go to the beach each day now often times I remember this feeling.

Take the time to do things that are pure and raw. Whether it’s surfing, hiking or bodyweight exercises, there are few things that are more character-building. Keep these thoughts fresh in your mind and revisit them each day.

Enjoy the rest of your year and look forward to catching up in 2007!
