Humor me for a moment if you will.
How often throughout the day do you find yourself gripping/grabbing/crushing with
your hands? Now think about how many times a day you open or extend the hands against
any sort of resistance?
This is the reason why it is one of the most neglected areas of training.
Place a rubber band around your fingers and open and close them. That simple but
it will do wonders for your hand health.
The band I use is from around the broccoli that I picked up from the supermarket.
You can also purchase bands from ironmind.com. I have not tried them as I have found
the band I use to be sufficient. You will need to have a band that is sufficient
for you. It may be a newspaper band or you may need the stronger ones form Ironmind.com
When I use the band I like to go for higher sets with repetitions around 10. Working
up to 60 – 100 reps. I do it throughout the day as well as after workouts. By taking
care of your hands they will recover quicker and be less injury prone.
Here are a couple of ways of making the exercise harder:
• Using fewer fingers – take a finger out of the equation or use only two
fingers, ect…
• Straightening your arm away from the body.
Looking after your hands has never been easier. Carry a band around in your pocket
and get it out throughout the day. Your hands will thank you for it.
Part two will cover speeding up hand recovery time.
